Pitch Angle Control for Variable Speed Wind Turbines Using Genetic Algorithm Controller

Abstract

The pitch angle control is the most common means for adjusting the aerodynamic torque of the wind turbine when we rate wind speed, controlling various variables could be chosen, as generator power, generator speed and wind. As conventional pitch control customarily use PI controller, the mathematical model of the system should be well known. The controller design by the genetic algorithm is developed in this paper. The genetic algorithm control strategy may have the potential when the system contains strong non-linearity, such as wind turbulence is strong. The design of controller strategies at is minimum will address the following elements: Optimization of power production with simultaneous load reduction of the main wind turbine components, Adapt control with respect to real operational conditions. In my research I found out that the genetic algorithm controller can achieve better control performances than conventional pitch angle control strategies.
