The purpose of this article is to commemorate the death of Willem-Karel Dicke 31 years ago and his first publication on gluten free diet in 1941 (Fig 1). Dicke, born 1905 in Dordrecht, the Netherlands, became the medical director ofthe Juliana Children's Hospital in The Hague at the age of 31.
