In this review we discuss the role of pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) as a possible new target molecule to therapeutically influence cardiovascular disease. PEDF is a multifunctional, pleiotropic protein with antiangiogenic, antitumorigenic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antithrombotic, neurotrophic and neuroprotective properties.
