Phytochemical and comparative studies of the stem bark and root of Xylopia aethiopica (Dunal.) A. Rich

The ethanolic extracts of the stem bark and root of Xylopia aethiopica were used for the study. Preliminary phytochemicals present were quantified using standard procedures. The result of the screening of the two samples showed the presence of alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, tannins, terpenes, steroids and cardiac glycosides and both samples tested negative for anthraquinones.
