Heat stress is a significant problem for aircraft ground crew working in hot climates. This survey investigated the thermal conditions in the working area and thermal strain on the ground crew of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force during the hot season in Okinawa, Japan. The environmental conditions of the apron (outdoors), and the hangar (indoors) were recorded during the working period, and rectal and skin temperatures were monitored in 14 ground crew members.
