This study represents the first report of the physical and chemical changes occurring in coatings of failed hydroxyapatite (HA)-coated titanium implants obtained from a comprehensive, multicenter human dental implant study. A total of 53 retrieved samples were obtained and compared with unimplanted controls with the same manufacturer and similar manufacture dates.
