The taxonomic history of anamorphic species attributed to Penicillium subgenus Biverticillium is reviewed, along with evidence supporting their relationship with teleomorphic species classified in Talaromyces. To supplement previous conclusions based on ITS, SSU and/or LSU sequencing that Talaromyces and subgenus Biverticillium comprise a monophyletic group that is distinct from Penicillium at the generic level, the phylogenetic relationships of these two groups with other genera of…

Polyphasic taxonomy of the genus Talaromyces

Talaromyces columbinus sp. nov., and Genealogical Concordance Analysis in Talaromyces Clade 2a

Examination of ITS sequences from GenBank showed that T. columbinus has previously been reported from human lung infections under the name Penicillium piceum, and scorteus is the proper name for isolates previously known as T. phialosporus.

Three new additions to the genus Talaromyces isolated from Atlantis sandveld fynbos soils

During a survey of Penicillium spp. in soils from the diverse fynbos region in the Western Cape, South Africa, a number of previously undescribed species were isolated. Three of these belong to subg.

New Penicillium and Talaromyces species from honey, pollen and nests of stingless bees

Penicillium and Talaromyces species obtained during a survey of honey, pollen and the inside of nests of Melipona scutellaris are characterized using a polyphasic approach combining phenotypic, molecular and extrolite data.

Morphology and multigene phylogeny of Talaromycesamyrossmaniae, a new synnematous species belonging to the section Trachyspermi from India.

Multigene phylogenetic analyses based on the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS), and partial sequences of β-tubulin, calmodulin, and DNA directed RNA polymerase second large subunit (RPB2) genes revealed that these isolates are distinct and form a unique lineage of Talaromyces in section Trachyspermi.

Phylogenetic relationships and the newly discovered sexual state of Talaromyces flavovirens , comb. nov.

Typical Talaromyces ascomata were observed on dry Quercus suber leaf litter amongst the characteristic synnemata of Penicillium aureocephalum, and they appear to represent the sexual state of the

Ascodesmisrosicola sp. nov. and Talaromycesrosarhiza sp. nov., two endophytes from Rosaroxburghii in China

Two strains of Ascodesmis and Talaromyces were isolated during a survey of biodiversity on endophytic fungi of R.roxburghii in China and they are proposed as two novel taxa.

Re-Evaluation of the Taxonomy of Talaromyces minioluteus

In this study, insight is given of the phylogenetic relationships and detailed descriptions of the species belonging to this clade of Talaromyces minioluteus, including the accepted species T. chongqingensis, T. minnesotensis and T. samsonii.

Multilocus phylogenetic analysis of Talaromyces species isolated from cucurbit plants in China and description of two new species, T. cucurbitiradicus and T. endophyticus

During a survey of endophytic fungi from cucurbit plants in China, 21 Talaromyces strains were isolated from ten symptomless plants and two new species were identified, one of which is morphologically similar to T. funiculosus but differs in the number of phialides per metula and by the production of chlamydospores.

A new lineage of mazaediate fungi in the Eurotiomycetes: Cryptocaliciomycetidae subclass. nov., based on the new species Cryptocalicium blascoi and the revision of the ascoma evolution

A new mazaediate species belonging to the Eurotiomycetes is described, Cryptocalicium blascoi, which occurs on the inner side of loose bark strips of Cupressaceae (Cupressus, Juniperus).

Phylogenetic relationships of human-pathogenic Cladosporium (Xylohypha) species inferred from partial LS rRNA sequences.

Human-pathogenic and saprophytic Cladosporium species were found to be phylogenetically distinct from each other and were considered to be anamorphs of Herpotrichiellaceae and Mycosphaerellaceae, respectively, and should be classified in different anamorph-genera.

Genus Hamigera, six new species and multilocus DNA sequence based phylogeny

Six new species are described in the genus Hamigera, erected for Talaromyces species that make asci singly instead of in chains, and the phylogenetic disposition of Warcupiella spinulosa, Penicillium megasporum, PenICillium arenicola and Merimbla humicoloides is examined.

Rasamsonia, a new genus comprising thermotolerant and thermophilic Talaromyces and Geosmithia species

The phylogenetic relationship among Geosmithia argillacea, Talaromyces emersonii, Talaromyces byssochlamydoides and other members of the Trichocomaceae was studied using partial RPB2 (RNA polymerase

Morphological and molecular characterisation of Geosmithia putterillii, G. pallida comb. nov. and G. flava sp. nov., associated with subcorticolous insects.

For another group of isolates formerly identified as G. putterillii the new species G. fiava is described based on a characteristic RAPD-type, a unique ITS sequences and a different phenotype, which are stable in culture and with worldwide distribution.

The Penicillium Funiculosum Complex — Well Defined Species and Problematic Taxa

The morphology and production of secondary metabolites of 96 isolates of Penicillium funiculosum and related taxa have been examined and the species accepted are shortly described and illustrated, while isolates from major culture collections were reidentified.

New taxa in Aspergillus section Usti

Based on phylogenetic analysis of sequence data, As pergillus section Usti includes 21 species, inclucing two teleomorphic species Aspergillus heterothallicus (= Emericella heterothallica) and Fennellia monodii and the new combination AsperGillus monodII comb is proposed.

Relatedness, phylogeny, and evolution of the fungi

The usefulness of the integrated analysis of genotypic and phenotypic characters has been emphasized for the major groups and selected taxa of the fungi, and the impact to fungal systematics and evolution is discussed.

Polyphyletic origins of species of the anamorphic genus Geosmithia and the relationships of the cleistothecial genera: Evidence from 18S, 5S and 28S rDNA sequence analyses

The anamorphic genus Geosmithia, with the type species G. lavendula, includes species strictly lacking a teleomorph as well as species associated with the teleomorphs Talaromyces and Chromocleista.
