We performed phylogenetic analyses of the subfamily Rubioideae (Rubiaceae) based on three different pieces of chloroplast DNA, the protein codingrbcL gene, the spacer sequence betweenatpB andrbcL (atpB-rbcL), and the recently published (Andersson and Rova 1999)rps16 intron data. NewrbcL sequences have been produced for 41 taxa and there are 52 newatpB-rbcL spacer sequences. All analyses gave similar results concerning the phylogeny, but they differ slightly in resolution and support for the…

The systematics of Knoxieae (Rubiaceae)—molecular data and their taxonomic consequences
TLDR
A molecular phylogeny of the Knoxieae group is presented and the morphological support for the resulting groups and the taxonomic consequences of the phylogeny are discussed.
Paraphyly and Polyphyly in the Worldwide Tribe Rubieae (Rubiaceae): Challenges for Generic Delimitation1,2
TLDR
These studies span distinctive groups throughout the tribe Rubieae, consist of a maximum parsimony analysis of plastid atpB-rbcL and rpL32-trnL DNA sequences, and are summarized in a condensed strict consensus tree that illustrates alternative hypotheses for phylogenetic relationships among all major Rubiaceae clades identified.
Paraphyly of Paederieae, recognition of Putorieae and expansion of Plocama (Rubiaceae-Rubioideae)
TLDR
This thesis deals with phylogenetic relationships at different taxonomic levels of the order Gentianales, which comprises about 17 200 species, based on parsimony analyses of nucleotide sequence data (DNA) from different regions in the chloroplast genome.
A phylogeny of Urophylleae (Rubiaceae) based on rps16 intron data
TLDR
Using sequence data from the rps16 intron to address the question where the four genera Temnopteryx, Pentaloncha, Pleiocarpidia, and Poecilocalyx belong, it is shown that there is conflict regarding the resolution among lineages in Rubioideae, which partly affects the support for relationships within Urophylleae.
Phylogeny of the tribe Cinchoneae (Rubiaceae), its position in Cinchonoideae, and description of a new genus, Ciliosemina
TLDR
There is strong support that these genera are monophyletic as presently conceived, except that one species mostly referred to Remijia is of uncertain phylogenetic affinity.
Phylogenetic position of Guihaiothamnus (Rubiaceae): its evolutionary and ecological implications.
TLDR
The molecular phylogenetic analyses placed the genus Guihaiothamnus in Rubiaceae deeply nested within Wendlandia, and suggests an evolutionary derivation rather than an evolutionary relict of G. acaulis.
Phylogenetic Placement of the Tribe Retiniphylleae Among the Subfamily Ixoroideae (Rubiaceae)1
TLDR
The results confirm the monophyly of the tribe and genus Retiniphyllum and the tribe is placed sister to the core members of the subfamily Ixoroideae s.
Palynological characters and their phylogenetic signal in Rubiaceae
TLDR
The systematic usefulness of pollen morphology in Rubiaceae is discussed at the (sub)family, tribal, generic, and infraspecific levels, using up-to-date evolutionary hypotheses for the different lineages in the family.
Studies in the tribe Spermacoceae (Rubiaceae-Rubioideae): the circumscriptions of Amphiasma and Pentanopsis and the affinities of Phylohydrax
TLDR
Phylogenetic analysis of rbcL cpDNA sequences for 34 members of the tribe Spermacoceae s.
Molecular systematics of the Catesbaeeae-Chiococceae complex (Rubiaceae): flower and fruit evolution and biogeographic implications.
TLDR
A more detailed examination of the generic relationships within the Catesbaeeae-Chiococceae complex using two data sets, the nuclear ribosomal ITS regions and the trnL-F chloroplast intron and spacer lends further support to previous hypotheses that the CCC is monophyletic and sister to Strumpfia maritima.

Phylogeny ofRubiaceae-Rubieae inferred from the sequence of a cpDNA intergene region
TLDR
A phylogenetic analysis of 25 species, representing eight genera of theRubieae tribe (Rubiaceae), has been made using the DNA sequence of the chloroplastatp B-rbc L intergene region, finding five groups are clearly separated and described as informal clades.
Collapse ofIsertieae, re-establishment ofMussaendeae, and a new genus ofSabiceeae (Rubiaceae); phylogenetic relationships based onrbcL data
TLDR
The investigation of molecular data neither supports the phylogeny of Andersson nor the classification of Robbrecht, but instead indicates totally new relationships ofIsertieae, Mussaendeae, andSabiceeae.
COMBINED AND SEPARATE ANALYSES OF MORPHOLOGICAL AND MOLECULAR DATA IN THE PLANT FAMILY RUBIACEAE
The Rubiaceae are one of the largest of the families of angiosperms, with over 10000 species. The tribal and subfamilial classification is provisional due to the lack of phylogenetic hypotheses. The
Phylogenetic relationships within the Gentianales based on NDHF and RBCL sequences, with particular reference to the Loganiaceae.
TLDR
Phylogenetic relationships in the Gentianales with focus on Loganiaceae sensu lato are evaluated using parsimony analyses of nucleotide sequence data from the plastid genes rbcL and ndhF, which indicate that the family Rubiaceae forms the sister group to the successively nested Gentianaceae, Apocynaceae, and Logania, all of which are well supported.
Revision of the genus Rennellia Korth. (Rubiaceae-Rubioideae)
TLDR
The genus Rennellia includes shrubs and small trees with white to pale bluish or pale violet flowers in panicle-, umbel-, or spike-like cymes and is confined to tropical rain forests in SE Asia, Sumatra, and Borneo.
Therps16 intron and the phylogeny of theRubioideae (Rubiaceae)
The phylogeny of the subfamilyRubioideae (Rubiaceae) was estimated from sequence variation in therps16 intron (cpDNA) in 143 ingroup and 5 outgroup taxa. The analysis largely confirms a recent one
The delimitation of the tribe Anthospermeae and its affinities to the Paederieae (Rubiaceae)
TLDR
A critical comparison of many characters suggests that the Rubiaceae tribe Anthospermeae is closely allied to the tribe Paederieae, and the genus Neogaillonia Linchevskii belongs to this tribe.
The genus Morinda (Morindeae, Rubioideae, Rubiaceae) in New Caledonia: taxonomy and phylogeny
TLDR
In this revision of Morinda in New Caledonia fourteen species are recognized, one of which is subdivided into four varieties, and one new variety, M. myrtifolia var.
The genus Xanthophytum (Rubiaceae). Taxonomy, phylogeny and biogeography
TLDR
The genus Xanthophytum (Rubiaceae) from Borneo, Java, the Philippines, New Guinea, and Fiji is revised and a hypothesis of the phylogenetic relationships is given, in the form of a cladogram, and discussed.
The genera Mitchella and Damnacanthus. Evidence for their close alliance; comments on the campylotropy in the Rubiaceae and the circumscription of the Morindeae
TLDR
The investigated characters overwhelmingly support the close alliance between Mitchella and Damnacanthus, and the Morindeae appear to be a heterogeneous tribe, and at least a group of genera allied to Prismatomeris is probably to be removed.
