ABSTRACT.
We obtained the first DNA sequences from the extinct Carolina Parakeet (Conuropsis carolinensis) and used these data to infer the phylogenetic relationships of this iconic North American parrot. We compared our sequences of the mitochondrial COI and ND2 genes obtained from multiple Carolina Parakeet museum specimens to homologous sequences from individuals representing 43 species in 28 genera of Neotropical parrots (Tribe Arini), and four species from more distantly related Old…

Complete mitochondrial genome of Blue-crowned Parakeet (Aratinga acuticaudata)—phylogenetic position of the species among parrots group called Conures
- BiologyMitochondrial DNA
- 2013
It is found that A. acuticaudata shares the closest relationship with Diopsittaca nobilis and forms a separate clade together with Guaruba guarouba and Leptosittaca branickii species with a significant node.
USE OF PHYLOGENETIC ANALYSIS TO IDENTIFY EVOLUTIONARILY SIGNIFICANT UNITS FOR THE ORANGE-FRONTED PARAKEET (EUPSITTULA CANICULARIS) IN MEXICO
- Biology
- 2016
Both the phylogenetic analyses and haplotype networks suggest two groups that correspond to two subspecies of E. canicularis based on morphological and geographical evidence and are proposed as independent ESUs for conservation purposes.
The influence of molecular markers and methods on inferring the phylogenetic relationships between the representatives of the Arini (parrots, Psittaciformes), determined on the basis of their complete mitochondrial genomes
- BiologyBMC Evolutionary Biology
- 2017
A new view is advanced on the relationships among the main genera of Arini and the inconsistencies between the taxa that were previously classified as the broadly defined genus Aratinga are resolved.
DNA-sequence data require revision of the parrot genus Aratinga (Aves: Psittacidae).
- BiologyZootaxa
- 2013
The genus Aratinga von Spix, 1824, as treated since Peters (1937), consists of 20 to 21 species of medium-sized, pointed-tailed, mostly green parakeets that range throughout the Neotropical region.
Resolving a phylogenetic hypothesis for parrots: implications from systematics to conservation
- Biology, Environmental Science
- 2018
An overview of published genetic data of parrots, characterise sampling depth across the phylogeny, and evaluate support for existing systematic treatments reveal well-supported relationships among recently proposed clades.
Complete mitochondrial genome of Mitred Conure (Psittacara mitratus): its comparison with mitogenome of Socorro Conure (Psittacara brevipes)
- BiologyMitochondrial DNA. Part A, DNA mapping, sequencing, and analysis
- 2016
This work sequenced complete mitochondrial genome of P. mitratus mitogenome to gain a source of comprehensive molecular data and refine the phylogenetic relationships within “Psittacara group” as well as within the tribe Arini.
Complete mitochondrial genome of endangered Socorro Conure (Aratinga brevipes) – taxonomic position of the species and its relationship with Green Conure
- Biology, Environmental ScienceMitochondrial DNA
- 2014
The results showed, that despite Aratinga brevipes is closely related to AratingA holochlora, this Conure should be treated as a separate species.
Phylogeography of the Military Macaw (Ara militaris) and the Great Green Macaw (A. Ambiguus) Based on MTDNA Sequence Data
- Biology
- 2015
ABSTRACT The Military Macaw (Ara militaris) and the Great Green Macaw (A. ambiguus) are species whose close relationship is reflected in their morphological similarity as well as their geographic…
Complete mitochondrial genome of white-eyed parakeet (Psittacara leucophthalmus): the basal species to other Psittacara
- BiologyMitochondrial DNA. Part B, Resources
- 2016
This work sequenced P. leucophthalmus mitogenome to increase the set of sequences required to determine taxonomic level and phylogeny of Psittacara taxa and suggests that other taxa with restricted range could emerge by a local split of larger population.
Higher classification of New World parrots (Psittaciformes; Arinae), with diagnoses of tribes.
- BiologyZootaxa
- 2013
We offer here a diagnosed higher-level classification of New World parrots to reflect relationships inferred from a consensus of recent DNA-based phylogenies and morphological and behavioral studies.…

PHYLOGENY AND BIOGEOGRAPHY OF THE AMAZONA OCHROCEPHALA (AVES: PSITTACIDAE) COMPLEX
- Biology
- 2004
A phylogenetic analysis of relationships among members of the Amazona ochrocephala species complex of parrots suggests that these parrots arrived in Middle America after the Panama land-bridge formed, and then expanded and diversified rapidly.
Phylogenetic relationships and historical biogeography of neotropical parrots (Psittaciformes: Psittacidae: Arini) inferred from mitochondrial and nuclear DNA sequences.
- Biology, Environmental ScienceSystematic biology

Estimates suggest that the Neotropical parrots shared a common ancestor with Australian parrots 59 Mya, well before Australia separated from Antarctica and South America, implying that ancestral parrots were widespread in Gondwanaland, and indicated that amazons and allies are in turn a sister group to parrotlets.
