We present a catalogue of about six million unresolved photometric detections in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Seventh Data Release, classifying them into stars, galaxies and quasars. We use a machine learning classifier trained on a subset of spectroscopically confirmed objects from 14th to 22nd magnitude in the SDSS i band. Our catalogue consists of 2 430 625 quasars, 3 544 036 stars and 63 586 unresolved galaxies from 14th to 24th magnitude in the SDSS i band. Our algorithm recovers 99… Expand
Automated physical classification in the SDSS DR10. A catalogue of candidate quasars
We discuss whether modern machine learning methods can be used to characterize the physical nature of the large number of objects sampled by the modern multi-band digital surveys. In particular, weExpand
Template-based classification of SDSS-GALEX point sources
We have classified a sample of 37,492 objects from SDSS into QSOs, galaxies and stars using photometric data over five wave bands (u, g, r, i and z) and UV GALEX data over two wave bands (near-UV andExpand
X-ray population study of the Draco dwarf spheroidal galaxy
This thesis presents the analysis of five XMM-Newton observations of the Draco dwarf spheroidal galaxy (dSph) in X-rays. We performed source detection separately for each image in each observationExpand
KiDS-SQuaD
The KiDS Strongly lensed QUAsar Detection project (KiDS-SQuaD) aims at finding as many previously undiscovered gravitational lensed quasars as possible in the Kilo Degree Survey. This is the secondExpand
Selecting quasar candidates using a support vector machine classification system
We develop and demonstrate a classification system that is made up of several support vector machine (SVM) classifiers, which can be applied to select quasar candidates from large sky surveyExpand
Classification of low-luminosity stellar X-ray sources in the field of the Draco dwarf spheroidal galaxy
Aims. A previous study of the X-ray luminosity function of the X-ray sources in the Draco dwarf spheroidal (dSph) galaxy field indicates the presence of a population of unknown X-ray sources in theExpand
Probing the extended gaseous regions of M31 with quasar absorption lines
We present HST-COS spectra of ten quasars located behind M31, selected to investigate the properties of gas associated with its extended disk and high velocity clouds (HVCs). The sightlines haveExpand
Discovery of a new blue quasar: SDSS J022218.03–062511.1
We report the discovery of a bright blue quasar: SDSS J022218.03–062511.1. This object was discovered spectroscopically while searching for hot white dwarfs that may be used as calibration sourcesExpand
Selecting Quasar Candidates by a SVM Classification System
We develop and demonstrate a classification system constituted by several Support Vector Machines (SVM) classifiers, which can be applied to select quasar candidates from large sky survey projects,Expand
A SVM-kNN method for quasar-star classification
We integrate k-Nearest Neighbors (kNN) into Support Vector Machine (SVM) and create a new method called SVM-kNN. SVM-kNN strengthens the generalization ability of SVM and apply kNN to correct someExpand
