We report on detailed Monte Carlo inversion analysis of five $\ion{O}{vi}$ systems from the spectrum of the bright quasar HE 0515–4414 ($z_{\rm em}\,$= 1.71). The associated system at $z_{\rm abs}\,$= 1.697 with the neutral hydrogen column density N ($\ion{H}{i}$) $= 4.4\times10^{13}$ cm -2 shows pronounced absorption from highly ionized transitions of $\ion{C}{iii}$, $\ion{C}{iv}$, $\ion{N}{v}$, $\ion{O}{vi}$, $\ion{Si}{iv}$, and probably $\ion{S}{vi}$. We found that only a power law type… Expand
The broad O VI absorber at z = 3.02 toward CTQ 325
We report on the multiphase absorption-line system detected at a redshift $z_{\rm abs}=3.021$ in the spectrum of the quasi-stellar object CTQ 325 ($z_{\rm em}= 3.212$). The system is displaced byExpand
Clues to the nature of high-redshift O vi absorption systems from their lack of small-scale structure
We present results of the first survey of high-redshift $(\langle z\rangle\sim 2.3)$ $\ion{O}{vi}$ absorption systems along parallel lines of sight toward two lensed QSOs. After a careful andExpand

Spectral shape of the UV ionizing background and He II absorption at redshifts 1.8 $<$ z $<$ 2.9

Spectral shape of the UV ionizing background and O VI absorbers at z ~ 1.5 towards HS 0747+4259
Aims. We report on high resolution spectra of the bright QSO HS 0747+4259 (z em = 1.90, V = 15.8) observed to search for intermediate redshift O VI absorption systems. Methods. The spectra wereExpand
HE 0141-3932: A bright QSO with an unusual emission line spectrum and associated absorption
HE 0141−3932 (zem = 1.80) is a bright blue radio-quite quasar with an unusually weak Lyα emission line. Large redshift differences (∆z = 0.05) are observed between high ionization and low ionizationExpand
The nature of NV absorbers at high redshift
Aims. We present a study of N v absorption systems at 1.5 z 2.5 in the spectra of 19 QSOs, based on data obtained with the VLT/UVES instrument. Our analysis includes both the absorbers arising fromExpand
A study of quasar proximity in O vi absorbers at z= 2–3★
With the goal of investigating the nature of O VI absorbers at high redshifts, we study the effects of proximity to the background quasar. In a sample of 16 quasars at Z QSO between 2.14 and 2.87Expand
