Abstract We study the formation of epitaxial graphene on Ru(0001) using fast x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy during the growth process. The assignment of different C 1 s and Ru 3 d core level components and their evolution during the growth process gives a detailed insight into the graphene formation and the strongly varying graphene-Ru interaction strength within the large moire unit cell. Subsequent intercalation of oxygen can be achieved at elevated temperature and the core level spectra… Expand

Selecting ``Convenient Observers" to Probe the Atomic Structure of CVD Graphene on Ir(111) via Photoelectron Diffraction.
TLDR
This work revisited the surface structure determination of graphene on Ir(111) by using the unique advantage of surface and chemical selectivity of synchrotron-based photoelectron diffraction and explores the graphene topography in the vicinity of its high-symmetry adsorption sites. Expand
Oxygen-Induced In Situ Manipulation of the Interlayer Coupling and Exciton Recombination in Bi2Se3/MoS2 2D Heterostructures.
TLDR
The results show that these atomically thin 2D heterostructures may be excellent candidates for oxygen sensing and allow for the interlayer coupling to be precisely manipulated with submicron spatial resolution, facilitating site-programmable 2D light-emitting pixels whose emission intensity could be precisely varied by a factor exceeding 200×. Unusual reversibility in molecular break-up of PAHs: the case of pentacene dehydrogenation on Ir(111)†
TLDR
A reversible temperature-induced dehydrogenation process is found when the system is annealed/cooled in a hydrogen atmosphere with a pressure higher than 5 × 10−7 mbar, which could have interesting implications for the synthesis of larger acenes and for the manipulation of graphene nanoribbon properties.
