The attenuation of catalytic activity that accompanies phosphorylation of Ser871 of Syrian hamster 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase (EC 1.1.1.34) reflects primarily the introduction of negative charge (Omkumar, R.
