A number of years ago, when the raison d’#{234}tre for tyrosine kinase activity was completely unclear, one of the tantalizing leads was the apparent coincidence of inositol lipid kinase activity with certain tyrosine kinases (see, for example Refs. 1 and 2); the exciting prospect implied was a link to a well defined signal transduction pathway (for a review of inositol lipid kinases, see Ref. 3).
