Phorbol esters, including 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol 13-acetate (TPA), induce terminal macrophagelike differentiation of cells from human acute myelogenous leukemia lines. We report that myelogenous leukemia cells obtained from patients undergo macrophagelike differentiation after exposure to TPA.
