Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and fluorescence polarization of embedded probe molecules were used to detect phase behavior of various phospholipids. The techniques were directly compared for detecting the transition of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) and dipalmitoylphosphatidic acid (DPPA) dispersed in aqueous salt solutions.
