The first recordings of neonatal EEG were performed more than sixty years ago, and the basis for the currently prevailing clinical EEG classification was laid already in the 1960’s. In retrospect, it seems somewhat surprising that not only the visual classification of EEG but also many features of currently used recording and analysis paradigms were set before the mid 1970’s.
