The second phase of the Small Main-belt Asteroid Spectroscopic Survey (SMASSII) produced an internally consistent set of visiblewavelength charge-coupled device (CCD) spectra for 1447 asteroids (Bus and Binzel 2002, Icarus, doi: 10.1006/icar.2002.6857). These data provide a basis for developing a new asteroid taxonomy that utilizes more of the information contained in CCD spectra.
