The wild boar (Sus scrofa) is widely distributed in Europe, Asia, and Northern Africa and has been classified into at least 16 subspecies (Ruvinsky and Rothschild, 1998). With distinctive muscle characteristics (Oshima et al., 2009), crossbreeding domestic pigs with wild boars to produce wild boar crossbred pigs have been carried out as an industry (Ishiguro et al., 2002), especially in the Changbai Mountains of China.
