The objectives of this study were to characterize the pharmacokinetics of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in poly(lactic-co-glycolic) acid (PLGA) microspheres using a rat model, and to develop a pharmacokinetic model for this controlled release formulation. 14C-VEGF was encapsulated using a solid-in-oil-in-water emulsification method.
