Pharmacoepigenetics potentially offers another level of explanation for interindividual variations in drug response that cannot be accounted for on the basis of genetic polymorphism. Many genes encoding enzymes, drug transporters, transcription factors, drug targets, and nuclear receptors are under epigenetic control.
