The pharmacodynamic profile of clarithromycin (CLR) was evaluated with a murine model of pneumonia. Eight Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates, including three macrolide-sensitive and five macrolide-resistant strains, were inoculated intratracheally into immunocompromised ICR mice as 10(8)-CFU bacterial suspensions.
