We investigated the sensitivity of our phallometric test for pedophilia (and hebephilia). An initial sample of subjects included 47 men accused of sexual offenses against minors and 26 control subjects-men accused of offenses against adult women (exhibitionism, rape, or sexually sadistic activity). A second sample included 107 offenders against minors and 30 control subjects. In both samples, the offenders against minors were further classified according to the targets of their sexual offenses… Expand
Sensitivity and specificity of the phallometric test for pedophilia in nonadmitting sex offenders.
Results for offenders against women showed that those who had had sexual contact with the greatest number of women (consenting or nonconsenting) had the lowest probability of being diagnosed as pedophilic. Expand
Pedophilia, Hebephilia, and the DSM-V
It is indicated that hebephilia exists as a discriminable erotic age-preference by examining the agreement between self-reported sexual interests and objectively recorded penile responses in the laboratory. Expand
Recidivism in pedophiles: an investigation using different diagnostic methods
The relationship between pedophilia and recidivism was examined in a sample of 206 extra-familial child molesters assessed at a university teaching hospital between 1982 and 1992. To addressExpand
Assessment of the sensitivity and specificity of a phallometric test: An update of phallometric diagnosis of pedophilia.
The specificity and sensitivity of the phallometric test of an erotic preference for minors was assessed. The specificity was determined to be 96.9% if using a group of sex offenders against femaleExpand
A taxometric analysis of pedophilia
Sexologists continue to lack understanding about a fundamental aspect of pedophilia: do men with pedophilia represent a unique group distinguished by their sexual interests, or are they high-scorersExpand
Child pornography offenses are a valid diagnostic indicator of pedophilia.
The results suggest child pornography offending is a stronger diagnostic indicator of pedophilia than is sexually offending against child victims. Expand
The Value of Phallometry in the Assessment of Male Sex Offenders
Abstract Deviant sexual interests such as pedophilia (interest in prepubescent children), biastophilia (interest in forced sex), and peo-deiktophilia (interest in exposing one's penis to strangers)Expand
Absolute Versus Relative Ascertainment of Pedophilia in Men
The results dramatically demonstrate the utility—or perhaps necessity—of relative ascertainment in the laboratory assessment of erotic age—preference. Expand
Validity in Phallometric Testing for Sexual Interests in Children: A Meta-Analytic Review
Certain methodological features of phallometric tests were associated with greater validity, such as, slide or audio-plus-slide stimuli and z-score-based indices, which provides further evidence that phallometry test scores are valid indicators of sexual interest in children. Expand
Phallometric Assessments of Sexual Interests: An Update
It is concluded that despite its long history, problems remain with phallometric assessments and clinicians should be cautious in interpreting the meaning of these responses, and that only deviant profiles can be confidently interpreted. Expand

The assessment and treatment of child molesters: A review.
Men who perform sexual acts with children do not form a homogeneous group. Compared to heterosexual child molesters, homosexual offenders choose older (pubescent) victims, are more likely toExpand
Differential sexual responding among four groups of sexual offenders against children
Previous literature on typologies of child molesters has separated groups into those that display a primary sexual orientation to children (the pedophile) versus those where children serve as aExpand

Sexual preferences among incestuous and nonincestuous child molesters
The sexual age preferences of incestuous and nonincestuous child molesters were examined using a circumferential measure of their penile responses to slides of persons varying in age and sex. EachExpand
The concept of courtship disorder.
Data from male samples are presented that show that two or more of these anomalies are often found in the same individual, suggesting the existence of a discrete syndrome which may be described as a courtship disorder. Expand
Signs of feigning in the phallometric test.
The first part of the study tested the validity of the conjecture that three particular patterns, occurring in phallometric results, are signs of feigning, and showed that feigning a spurious preference for sex (gender) of partner is more difficult than feigningA spurious preference in respect to partner age.
