This study aimed to isolate and identify members of the Enterobacteriaceae that were present in domestic ducks (Cairina moschata) from properties located in four cities in the State of Ceara, Brazil. Therefore, 65 stool samples and 47 cloacal swabs were collected from farms located in the following cities: Fortaleza, Boa Agua, Eusebio and Cascavel. The samples were submitted to bacteriological processing. In pre-enrichment, all of the stool and swab samples were cultured in buffered peptone…

Occurrence of Salmonella sp. and Escherichia coli in free-living and captive wild birds from 2010-2013 in Guarapuava, Paran, Brazil

TLDR
It is demonstrated that birds that were analyzed may carry and spread these enterobacteria, and preventive measures for human exposure should be determined, as these microorganisms are public health concerns.

TLDR
E. coli was found in the poultry houses, in the litter and the insects and the bacteria are responsible for dissemination of colibacilose.

Comparison of polymerase chain reaction and bacterial culture for Salmonella detection in the Muscovy duck in Trinidad and Tobago.

TLDR
In Trinidad and Tobago, the Muscovy duck does not appear to be a significant source of S. typhimurium or S. enteritidis, but it does harbor other Salmonella species, and in-house, nested PCR represents a simple, relatively inexpensive and potentially more sensitive method than bacterial culture for the routine surveillance of pathogenicSalmonella in the MusCovy duck.

OCCURRENCE OF POTENTIAL PATHOGENS IN WILD CARIBBEAN FLAMINGOS

TLDR
Findings from Caribbean flamingos sampled during an episode of lead poisoning in Yucat?n, Mexico, that occurred March-April 1989 are reported, with possible disease implications in this flamingo population.

Detection of Lactobacillus, Pediococcus, Leuconostoc, and Weissella Species in Human Feces by Using Group-Specific PCR Primers and Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis

ABSTRACT Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) of DNA fragments generated by PCR with 16S ribosomal DNA-targeted group-specific primers was used to detect lactic acid bacteria (LAB) of the

Avian wildlife reservoir of Campylobacter fetus subsp. jejuni, Yersinia spp., and Salmonella spp. in Norway

TLDR
The results indicate that campylobacters are a normal component of the intestinal flora in several bird species, whereas Salmonella and Yersinia carriers are more sporadic.

Fecal shedding and antimicrobial susceptibility of selected bacterial pathogens and a survey of intestinal parasites in free-living waterfowl.

Free-living waterfowl residing in metropolitan parks in central Ohio were surveyed for the fecal shedding and antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of Campylobacter jejuni, Escherichia coli,

Isolation, identification and characterization of Salmonella from duck

TLDR
Antibiotic sensitivity analysis of duck Salmonella isolates showed that the duck isolates were highly sensitive to ciprofloxacin, kanamycin, nalidixic acid, co-trimoxazole and cephalexin but these isolate were highly resistant to chloramphenicol.

Clinical significance of extraintestinal Hafnia alvei isolates from 61 patients and review of the literature.

Clinical infectious diseases : an official publication of the Infectious Diseases Society of America

TLDR
Hafnia alvei proved to be the etiologic agent in two episodes of septicemia and in one episode of peritonitis and was probably responsible for septicaemia in two other patients and pneumonia in one.

Elimination of early Salmonella enteritidis infection after treatment with competitive-exclusion culture and enrofloxacin in experimentally infected chicks.

TLDR
The use of enrofloxacin, followed by NAGF, could aid the elimination of SE from young chicks persistently infected at an early age and protected chickens from reinfection by 40%.
