}OBJECTIVE
To examine the persistence of three newly initiated stimulant preparations among Medicaid children and adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) diagnosis.
METHODS
A retrospective longitudinal claims analysis was conducted by using Medicaid analytical eXtract data of four states. The study focused on patients between 6 and 19 years of age with ADHD diagnosis and a stimulant prescription from January 2003 to December 2005. Stimulants were grouped into short…Â

- Medicine, PsychologyJournal of managed care & specialty pharmacy
- 2015
Concomitant use of atypical antipsychotics was associated with improved LAS treatment persistence in children and adolescents with ADHD and gender, health insurance, region, year of cohort entry, season, physician specialty, coexisting mental health conditions, and general mental health status influenced the concomitantUse of LAS and atypicals antipsychotic agents.

- Psychology, MedicinePsychiatric services
- 2015
Recurrent use of LAS and second-generation antipsychotic medications was higher among boys, blacks, and foster care children compared with their respective counterparts, andComorbid psychiatric conditions, including disorders that are not approved indications for second- Generation antipsychotics, were associated with concurrent use.
Initiation and Persistence of Pharmacotherapy for Youths with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Taiwan

It is suggested that IR–MPH is the most frequently prescribed drug for ADHD treatment in Taiwan and an older age at first prescription and a higher daily dose of prescription were significant predictors of early discontinuation of ADHD medication.

The hierarchical regression analysis conducted in this research revealed that younger age, higher hyperactivity/impulsivity symptom severity, use of long-acting methylphenidate, add of another ADHD medication, addition of other psychotropic medications, absence of side effects, and perceived medication efficacy were associated with successful medication persistence over a continuous 12 month period.
Stimulant Medications and Cognition, Behavior and Quality of Life in Children and Youth with HIV

Expectations for behavioral improvement may not align well with long-term effects of stimulant prescription use on behavior and QOL in children with HIV, suggesting there are subsets of children who may benefit from stimulant therapy.

Concomitant use of LAS and AAP was not associated with risk of CVD events in ADHD patients when compared with LAS monotherapy, according to time-dependent Cox regression analysis.
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder with Inadequate Response to Stimulants: Approaches to Management
- Medicine, PsychologyCNS Drugs
- 2014
For patients with inadequate dosing, medication optimization should be tried and switching to another stimulant class or a non-stimulant is an option, while for patients who are partial responders to stimulants, despite adequate adherence and dose optimization, the addition of atomoxetine or guanfacine extended release or clonidine extended release may help them achieve adequate response.
Differences in Utilization Patterns among Medications in Children and Adolescents with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: a 36-Month Retrospective Study Using the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Claims Database
- Medicine, PsychologyJournal of Korean medical science
- 2016
The differences in utilization patterns including persistence and adherence among medications in children and adolescents with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are evaluated and it is suggested that the utilization patterns should be assessed regularly in order to improve future outcomes.

Results suggest that, even though patients continued their ADHD medication for several months, they did not consistently take medication for more than 2 months, and pharmacologic treatment in newly treated ADHD patients may be suboptimal and may impact outcomes, including the effectiveness and cost of treatment.
