Peroxynitrate is formed rapidly during decomposition of peroxynitrite at neutral pH.

Abstract

The decomposition of peroxynitrite near neutral pH leads ultimately to the formation of dioxygen and nitrite via an intermediate with an absorbance maximum at 284 nm. The intermediate oxidises I(-) with a rate constant of (78 +/- 8) x 10 M(-1) s(-1) and decays near pH 7 with a rate constant of (0.58 +/- 0.02) s(-1) at 22 degrees C, but is longer-lived at… (More)
