Periodontal diseases, especially gingivitis and periodontitis, are highly prevalent and a public health concern. Severe forms of these diseases cause ulceration of the oral epithelium, leading to entry of oral microbes and inflammatory products into systemic circulation. Early detection and management of these lesions is important to avoid this systemic spread.
