Detection of sub-GeV dark matter candidates requires sub-keV detector thresholds on deposited energy. We provide an update on a gram-scale phonon-mediated KID-based device that was designed for a dark matter search in this mass range at the Northwest-ern Experimental Underground Site. Currently, the device is demonstrating 6 eV resolution on the energy absorbed by the resonator. With some important assumptions, this translates to 20 eV baseline resolution on energy deposited in the substrate…

Snowmass2021 Cosmic Frontier White Paper: Puzzling Excesses in Dark Matter Searches and How to Resolve Them

Intriguing signals with excesses over expected backgrounds have been observed in many astrophysical and terrestrial settings, which could potentially have a dark matter origin. Astrophysical excesses

Contact-less phonon detection with massive cryogenic absorbers

We have developed a contact-less technique for the real time measurement of a-thermal phonons in an absorber held at sub-Kelvin temperatures. In particular, a thin-film aluminium superconducting

Exclusion limits on the WIMP nucleon elastic scattering cross-section from the Cryogenic Dark Matter Search

Extensive evidence indicates that a large fraction of the matter in the universe is nonluminous, nonbaryonic, and “cold” — nonrelativistic at the time matter began to dominate the energy density of

Superconducting Microresonators: Physics and Applications

Interest in superconducting microresonators has grown dramatically over the past decade. Resonator performance has improved substantially through the use of improved geometries and materials as well

High sensitivity phonon-mediated kinetic inductance detector with combined amplitude and phase read-out

Developing wide-area cryogenic light detectors with baseline resolution better than 20 eV is one of the priorities of next generation bolometric experiments searching for rare interactions, as the
