The Xpert MTB/RIF assay (Xpert; Cepheid, Sunnyvale, CA, USA) is a rapid, World Health Organization (WHO) endorsed, automated PCR test optimised for respiratory specimens that can detect both Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) and rifampicin resistance [3, 4].
