Five different kinds of quinoline insolubles in binder pitches were investigated concerning their influence on the performance in anode making: primary QI secondary QI coal/coke breeze carbon black and ash Experimental and commercial pitches were fully characterized using conventional anode binder specification tests and some additional tests including wetting behaviour, mesophase content and inorganic material.
