BACKGROUND Community First Responders (CFRs) are lay volunteers who respond to medical emergencies. We aimed to explore perceptions and experiences of CFRs in one scheme about their role. METHODS We conducted semi-structured interviews with a purposive sample of CFRs during June and July 2016 in a predominantly rural UK county.
