Two isolates of monoverticillate Penicillium species were collected from a grape and schisandra fruit in Korea. Multigene phylogenetic analyses with the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region and genes encoding β-tubulin (benA) and calmodulin (cmd), as well as morphological analyses revealed that the two isolates are members of the P. sclerotiorum complex in Penicillium subgenus Aspergilloides, but different from species of the P. sclerotiorum complex. The isolates are…
Three Unrecorded Species Belonging to Penicillium Section Sclerotiora from Marine Environments in Korea
TLDR
The diversity of Penicillium section Sclerotiora in marine environments in Korea was investigated and three species were confirmed as new to Korea: P. exsudans, P. mallochii, and P. maximae.
Phylogeny and morphological analyses of Penicillium section Sclerotiora (Fungi) lead to the discovery of five new species
TLDR
Five new species of Penicillium are identified from the samples collected from different places of China, and it is revealed that all the species with biverticillate condiophores form a well-supported subclade in the section Sclerotiora.
A New record of four Penicillium species isolated from Agarum clathratum in Korea
TLDR
Agarum clathratum samples that collected from 13 sites along the mid-east coast of Korea in summer were isolated and Penicillium species were identified, four of which are new species records to Korea and provided morphological characteristics of each strain.
New Records of Four Species Belonging to Eurotiales from Soil and Freshwater in Korea
TLDR
Four strains of Penicillium and Talaromyces species are described and illustrated in an inventory of fungal species belonging to Eurotiales and found to represent a previously undescribed species of Korean fungal biota.
Species List of Aspergillus, Penicillium and Talaromyces in Korea, Based on ‘One Fungus One Name’ System
TLDR
Aspergillus, Penicillium, Eurotium, Neosartorya, Talaromyces, and others are among those confirmed to have passed the test.
Selective antifungal activity of chitosan and sulfonated chitosan against postharvest fungus isolated from blueberry
TLDR
Experimental results obtained herein are useful for designing and implementing fungicide resistance management for control postharvest decay in blueberry to improve marketable fruit and extend the storage life of fresh blueberries.

Penicillium viticola, a new species isolated from a grape in Japan
TLDR
A new monoverticillate Penicillium species (subgenus Aspergilloides Dierckx) was isolated from a grape cultivated in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan and is characterized by the production of slightly roughened conidia, slightly rouGhened stipes, and rapid growth on 25% glycerol nitrate agar (G25N).
Five new Penicillium species in section Sclerotiora: a tribute to the Dutch Royal family
Current literature accepts 17 species in Penicillium section Sclerotiora. Several produce colonies in bright yellow to orange colours and have monoverticillate conidiophores, apart from P. herquei,
A taxonomic and phylogenetic revision of the Penicillium sclerotiorum complex
TLDR
Multigene phylogenetic analyses with the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region, cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1), β-tubulin (benA), translation elongation factor 1-α (tef1-α), and calmodulin (cmd), reveal that the P. sclerotiorum morphospecies is a complex of seven phylogenetically distinct species, three of which were recently described.
Multilocus DNA sequence analysis shows that Penicillium biourgeianum is a distinct species closely related to P. brevicompactum and P. olsonii
TLDR
Using the phylogenetic species concept and the genetic isolation of the clades, Penicillium brevicompactum and other isolates with the compact, complex conidiogenous apparatus typical of the species were sequenced in one ribosomal and two protein coding regions.
Penicillium subgenus Penicillium - A guide to identification of food and air-borne terverticillate Penicillia and their mycotoxins
TLDR
A stable taxonomy of these species is proposed based on a polyphasic study of a large number of isolates and features based on fungal differentiation and extrolites are most diagnostic and consistent, but the classification proposed is also supported by the physiological and nutritional characters.
Penicillium thiersii, Penicillium angulare and Penicillium decaturense, new species isolated from wood-decay fungi in North America and their phylogenetic placement from multilocus DNA sequence analysis
TLDR
Three new fungicolous species are described on the basis of phenotypic and phylogenetic differences from known species and analysis of the EF-1α gene shows rapid changes of position, number and length of introns between the species, suggesting a recent evolutionary origin for the introns.
Penicillium brocae, a new species associated with the coffee berry borer in Chiapas, Mexico.
TLDR
Penicillium brocae may provide the exogenous sterols necessary for the coffee berry borer's development and thus be mutualistically associated with the insect.
