Two Gram-negative, non-motile, pleomorphic bacterial strains, DS-40(T) and DS-45(T), were isolated from a soil sample collected from Dokdo, Korea, and their exact taxonomic positions were investigated by using a polyphasic approach. Strains DS-40(T) and DS-45(T) grew optimally at 25 degrees C and pH 6.5-7.5 in the presence of 0-1.0 % (w/v) NaCl. They contained MK-7 as the predominant menaquinone and possessed iso-C(15 : 0), iso-C(17 : 0) 3-OH and summed feature 3 (C(16 : 1)omega7c and/or iso-C…

Pedobacter boryungensis sp. nov., isolated from soil.

On the basis of the data presented, strain BR-9(T) is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Pedobacter, for which the name pedobacter boryungensis sp.

Nocardioides terrigena sp. nov., isolated from soil.

A Gram-positive, rod- or coccoid-shaped bacterial strain isolated from a soil in Dokdo, Korea, and its taxonomic position was investigated by using a polyphasic approach, showing that strain DS-17T belonged to the genus Nocardioides.

Two strains of Gram-staining-negative, rod-shaped bacteria that were motile by gliding, N7d-4(T) and B4a-b5, were isolated during a study of culturable bacteria in soil cultivated with potatoes and considered to represent a novel species of the genus Pedobacter.

Nocardioides insulae sp. nov., isolated from soil.

Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain DS-51(T) forms a distinct line of descent within the radiation enclosed by the genus Nocardioides.

Pedobacter tournemirensis sp. nov., isolated from a fault water sample of a deep Toarcian argillite layer.

On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence comparison and physiological and biochemical characteristics, strain TF5-37.2-LB10(T) represents a novel species of the genus Pedobacter, for which the namePedobacter tournemirensis sp.

Nocardioides hankookensis sp. nov., isolated from soil.

A phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain DS-30(T) fell within the genus Nocardioides, forming a coherent cluster with the type strains of N. aquiterrae and N. pyridinolyticus, and could be differentiated from these species with reference to a number of phenotypic characteristics.

Pedobacter xixiisoli sp. nov., isolated from bank soil.

Data all support the affiliation of strain S27(T) to the genus Pedobacter, for which the name Pedobacteria xixiisoli sp.

Pedobacter composti sp. nov., isolated from compost.

Chemotaxonomic data support the affiliation of strain TR6-06(T) to the genus Pedobacter on the basis of its phenotypic properties and phylogenetic distinctiveness and classify it as the type strain of a novel species, for which the name Pedobacteria composti sp.
