High-grade gliomas, including glioblastoma multiforme, anaplastic astrocytoma, and intrinsic pontine, are very difficult to treat in children. Despite aggressive treatment with multimodal therapy, most children with these diseases do not survive. Data from published series support aggressive surgical resection when clinically feasible.
