Management and proper approach to pediatric palm burns remains unclear. Our burn center’s approach includes early, aggressive range of motion therapy, combined with a period of watchful waiting, reserving grafting only for those palms that do not heal in a timely manner. We reviewed our experience using this approach over a 10-year period. We performed a retrospective review of all pediatric patients with palm burns admitted to our burn center from 1994 to 2004. A total of 168 patients (194…
The treatment of palmar contact burns in children: a five-year review.
Pediatric palmar contact burns are becoming a common trauma, especially in young children. Treatment of this kind of burn is challenging as well as controversial, regarding the choice between
Skin grafting after paediatric palmar burns: an analysis of 82 patients
TLDR
It is concluded that full-thickness skin grafts remain the reference standard of care in paediatric patients’ hands and children with burn scars should have regular check-up examinations until they are fully grown.
Functional and Cosmetic Outcome of Full- Versus Split-Thickness Skin Grafts in Pediatric Palmar Surface Burns: A Prospective, Independent Evaluation
TLDR
An improved outcome in children with deep palm burns after FTSG is suggested, although with the exception of scar pliability these differences were small.
A Soft Casting Technique for Managing Pediatric Hand and Foot Burns.
Hand and foot burns in children are difficult to dress. The authors have developed a soft casting technique to manage burns to these areas. The aim of this study is to report the outcomes using
Post burn flexion contracture of hand: a prospective study
TLDR
The hand is a highly specialized organ, described as the third eye with many delicate structures, which causes a functional deformity, which leads to impairment of routine activities and post-burn deformities serve as a constant visual stigma to the patient and are functionally limiting.
Outcomes of early and intensive use of a palm and digit extension orthosis in young children after burn injury.
TLDR
Outcome of early and intensive use of a palm and digit extension orthosis with the elbow immobilised at 90° flexion following a palmar hand burn can maintain full extension of the palm and digits in children after palmar burn.
Effects of Early Versus Delayed Excision and Grafting on Restoring the Functionality of Deep Burn-Injured Hands: A Double-Blind, Randomized Parallel Clinical Trial.
TLDR
EEG is recognized as the standard treatment for deep skin burns, but the authors did not find any significant difference between effects of EEG and DEG on hand functions although EEG group had shorter hospital stay and lower treatment costs compared with DEG.

TLDR
Pediatric palmar burns are benign injuries with a low incidence of late sequelae, however, flame and contact burns are more prone to develop scarring.
Results of early excision and full-thickness grafting of deep palm burns in children.
TLDR
Full passive range of motion was attained in all grafted hands within the period of 2 to 4 months after operation, and FTSG should be considered as a first choice for deep palm burns.

TLDR
When managed in a coordinated long-term program, the large majority of children with serious hand burns can be expected to have excellent functional results.

TLDR
Although the outcomes of these burn injuries were good in physical and functional areas, the developmental findings raised concerns and alert clinicians to screen for potential developmental problems during the burned child's recovery phase.
