Abstract Surface plasmons (SP) in a semi-bounded quantum plasma with degenerate electrons (e.g. a metal) are considered, and some interesting consequences of electron Pauli blocking for the SP dispersion and temporal attenuation are discussed. In particular, it is demonstrated that a semi-bounded degenerate plasma with a sharp boundary supports two types of SP with distinct frequencies and qualitatively different temporal attenuation, in contrast to a non-degenerate hot plasma that only…

Surface plasmon oscillations in a semi-bounded semiconductor plasma

We study the dispersion properties of surface plasmon (SP) oscillations in a semi-bounded semiconductor plasma with the effects of the Coulomb exchange (CE) force associated with the spin

Boundary graphene layer effect on surface plasmon oscillations in a quantum plasma half-space

The effect of graphene on unique features of surface plasmon-polariton excitations near the interface of vacuum and quantum plasma half-space is explored using a quantum hydrodynamic model including

Surface plasmon oscillations on a quantum plasma half-space

We investigate the propagation of surface electrostatic oscillations on a quantum plasma half-space, taking into account the quantum effects. We derive the quantum surface wave frequencies of the

Quantum electrostatic surface waves in a hybrid plasma waveguide: Effect of nano-sized slab

The propagation properties of surface plasmon (SP) waves are studied in a hybrid plasma waveguide (consisting of plasma-gap-dielectric layers) with quantum effects including the Fermi-pressure, the

The exchange-correlation effects on surface plasmon oscillations in semi-bounded quantum plasma

We studied the surface plasmon waves in a quantum plasma half-space by considering the effects of exchange and correlation for the electrons. We used a quantum hydrodynamic approach, including the

A new type of surface waves in a fully degenerate quantum plasma

We study the response of a semi-bounded one-component fully degenerate electron plasma to an initial perturbation, in the electrostatic limit. We show that the part of the electric potential

Surface spin-electron acoustic waves in magnetically ordered metals

Degenerate plasmas with motionless ions show existence of three surface waves: the Langmuir wave, the electromagnetic wave, and the zeroth sound. Applying the separated spin evolution quantum

Influence of Quantum Effects on the Magnetic Field Behavior in Overdense Plasma

We study the conditions for the anomalous transmission of electromagnetic waves through quantum overdense plasma. We show that this anomalous transmission is triggered due to the excitation of

Influence of Quantum Effects on the Magnetic Field Behavior in Overdense Plasma

We study the conditions for the anomalous transmission of electromagnetic waves through quantum overdense plasma. We show that this anomalous transmission is triggered due to the excitation of

New quantum limits in plasmonic devices

Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) have recently been recognized as an important future technique for microelectronics. Such SPPs have been studied using classical theory. However, current

Theory of surface plasmons and surface-plasmon polaritons

Collective electronic excitations at metal surfaces are well known to play a key role in a wide spectrum of science, ranging from physics and materials science to biology. Here we focus on a

Surface plasmon polaritons in a semi-bounded degenerate plasma: Role of spatial dispersion and collisions

Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) in a semi-bounded degenerate plasma (e.g., a metal) are studied using the quasiclassical mean-field kinetic model, taking into account the spatial dispersion of the

Surface plasmon amplification by stimulated emission of radiation: quantum generation of coherent surface plasmons in nanosystems.

A quantum generator for surface plasmon quanta is introduced and the phenomenon of surface Plasmon amplification by stimulated emission of radiation (spaser) is considered.

The Case for Plasmonics

Light-induced surface excitations may offer a route to faster, smaller, and more efficient electronics as well as new technology opportunities. Just over a decade ago, the term “plasmonics” was

Notizen: Radiative Decay of Non Radiative Surface Plasmons Excited by Light

There are two modes of surface plasma waves: 1) Non-radiative modes with phase velocities Cü/k smaller than the velocity of light c. They cannot decay into photons in general. 2) Radiative modes with

Surface waves on a quantum plasma half-space

Surface modes are coupled electromagnetic/electrostatic excitations of free electrons near the vacuum-plasma interface and can be excited on a sufficiently dense plasma half-space. They propagate

Excitation of nonradiative surface plasma waves in silver by the method of frustrated total reflection

A new method of exciting nonradiative surface plasma waves (SPW) on smooth surfaces, causing also a new phenomena in total reflexion, is described. Since the phase velocity of the SPW at a

Attenuation of the surface wave fields into a degenerate plasma: another Kohn anomaly

It is demonstrated that due to the Kohn singularity the attenuation of surface waves into the bulk of a semi-infinite degenerate plasma can follow a power-law (no exponential decrease, as in a

Dispersion and damping of potential surface waves in a degenerate plasma

Potential (electrostatic) surface waves (SWs) in a semi-bounded plasma with degenerate electrons are studied using the quasi-classical mean-field kinetic model. The SW spectrum and the collisionless
