Trophic ecology of Brycon henni (Pisces: Characidae) in the Portugal de Piedras river, upper Cauca basin, Colombia
TLDR
Gorgona, Baudo and Darien (Biogeographic Choco, Colombia): model ecoregions for coastal stream ecology studies. This paper summarizes the available information on the geology, hydrology, and biota of
Pterygoplichthys pardalis (Castelnau, 1855), an introduced species in the Cauca River Basin, Colombia.
We report Pterygoplichthys pardalis introduction - a freshwater fish species from the Amazon river basin - in the Cauca river basin and in Salvajina and Calima dams, Colombia. Scope: We registered
Phylogenetic relationships within the South American fish family Anostomidae (Teleostei, Ostariophysi, Characiformes)
TLDR
The presence of cis- and trans-Andean species in Abramites, Leporellus, Leporinus and Schizodon, all relatively basal genera, suggests that much of the diversification of anostomid species pre-dates the uplift of the Andean Cordilleras circa 11.8 million years ago.
Feeding habits and ecological role of the freshwater stingray Potamotrygon magdalenae (Duméril 1865) (Myliobatiformes: Potamotrygonidae), combining gut-content and stable isotope analysis
TLDR
The stomach content analysis indicated that P. magdalenae fed on a high number of occasional items, such as seeds, Planariidae, Teleostei and Nematoda, with Diptera being the dominant food component at the population level, and isotopic analysis showed that Coleoptera was the most important food source assimilated by the species.
EFFECTS OF AQUATIC VEGETATION ON THE SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION OF GRUNDULUS BOGOTENSIS, HUMBOLDT 1821 (CHARACIFORMES: CHARACIDAE)
TLDR
It is concluded that only cylindrical cloth traps are suitable to conduct population studies of G. bogotensis, which depend on the dominant type of aquatic vegetation and size of individual.
Checklist of the freshwater fishes of Colombia: a Darwin Core alternative to the updating problem
TLDR
Updating the current checklist is a fundamental requirement to ensure its incorporation in the decision-making process with regard to the conservation of Colombian aquatic species and ecosystems, which are facing transformation processes as a result of activities such as mining, construction of hydroelectric plants, expansion of the agricultural frontier and subsequent deforestation.
Differences in physical habitat simulation system modelling results using benthic or pelagic fish species as indicators in Peruvian Andes–Amazon rivers
Aquatic organisms with different adaptations are used as indicators in physical habitat simulation system models. Those adaptations are critical for determining the shape of the weighted usable
A Regional Perspective on the Diversity and Conservation of Tropical Andean Fishes
TLDR
The long-term persistence of tropical Andean fishes will depend on greater consideration of freshwater systems in regional conservation initiatives, and their distributions and population dynamics may be affected by hydrologic alterations and warmer water temperatures associated with projected climate change.
