This review discusses how brain morphogenesis is related to the arrange­ ments of the earliest neurons and their axons in a simple vertebrate, the zebrafish Brachydanio rerio. Descriptive work establishes that the early neurons normally arise at stereotyped positions, which are well defined with respect to the overall brain shape. These cells grow their axons without errors or retractions and pioneer pathways, which occur at invariant positions, in a way clearly related to brain regionalization… CONTINUE READING
