the lithographic and templated etching of graphene, [ 9 , 10 ] and the covalent assembly of molecular building blocks, [ 11 ] have been developed for graphene nanostructure fabrication, but zigzag edges in these graphene structures have not yet been achieved. Here we report a top-down fabrication approach that enables controlled tailoring of graphene with zigzag edges.
