Valleytronics in 2D materials

The energy extrema of an electronic band are referred to as valleys. In 2D materials, two distinguishable valleys can be used to encode information and explore other valleytronic applications.

Pulses of the Excitonic Condensed Phase in Semiconductors with Double Quantum Well at Steady Pumping

The conditions, under which the generation and movement of solitons (regions of exciton condensed phases) occurs in double quantum wells of semiconductors under a stationary pumping and in the

Excitation of pulses of excitonic condensed phase at steady pumping

Abstract. The dynamics of the density of indirect excitons created in a double quantum well heterostructure by a laser illumination are considered and an idea of a generator of the traveling pulses

Exciton effective mass enhancement in coupled quantum wells in electric and magnetic fields

We present a calculation of exciton states in semiconductor coupled quantum wells in the presence of electric and magnetic fields applied perpendicular to the QW plane. The exciton Schrödinger

Anomalous boron isotope effects on electronic structure and lattice dynamics of CuB2O4

Copper metaborate had a unique crystal structure and exhibited noteworthy magnetic phase transitions at 21 and 10 K. The electronic structure and lattice dynamics of copper metaborate Cu11B2O4 single

Tuning electronic properties of transition-metal dichalcogenides via defect charge

It is demonstrated that the electronic structure of MoS2 depends sensitively on the defect charge, both its sign and magnitude, and impurity state binding energies are controlled by the effective mass of the corresponding valley, but with significant deviations from hydrogenic behaviour due to unconventional screening of the defect potential.

Electrical Control of Excitons in Semiconductor Nanostructures: From Quantum Dots in Photonic-Crystal Devices to the Exciton Mott Transition in Coupled Quantum Wells

The scope of this thesis covers investigation of the exciton Mott transition in coupled quantum wells, fabrication of photonic-crystal structures with embedded self-assembled quantum dots, and tuning

Exciton-Phonon Interaction and Relaxation Times from First Principles.

A rigorous approach for computing exciton-phonon (ex-ph) interactions and the associated exciton dynamical processes from first principles is shown and provides a framework for investigating exciton dynamics in a wide range of materials.

Synthesis, properties, and optoelectronic applications of two-dimensional MoS2 and MoS2-based heterostructures.

Recent progress in the synthesis, properties and applications of MoS2 and related heterostructures are reviewed, including their novel properties and functionalities as well as emerging applications, especially in the areas of light energy harvesting or conversion.

Origin of the inner ring in photoluminescence patterns of quantum well excitons

In order to explain and model the inner ring in photoluminescence (PL) patterns of indirect excitons in GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wells (QWs), we develop a microscopic approach formulated in terms of

Exciton-exciton interactions in quantum wells: Optical properties and energy and spin relaxation

A gas of interacting excitons in quantum wells is studied. We obtain the Hamiltonian of this gas by the projection of the electron-hole plasma Hamiltonian to exciton states and an expansion in a

Spontaneous coherence in a cold exciton gas

It is found that spontaneous coherence of excitons emerges in the region of the macroscopically ordered exciton state and in the area of vortices of linear polarization, indicating a coherent state with a much narrower than classical exciton distribution in momentum space, characteristic of a condensate.

Macroscopically ordered state in an exciton system

Photoluminescence measurements of a quasi-two-dimensional exciton gas in GaAs/AlGaAs coupled quantum wells and the observation of a macroscopically ordered exciton state are reported.
