We study pattern avoiding doubly alternating (DA) permutations, i.e., alternating (or zigzag) permutations whose inverse is also alternating. We exhibit a bijection between the 1234-avoiding permutations and the 1234-avoiding DA permutations of twice the size using the Robinson-Schensted correspondence. Further, we present a bijection between the 1234and 2134-avoiding DA permutations and we prove that the 2413-avoiding DA permutations are counted by the Catalan numbers. Résumé.
