Wheat is one of the important major crops of Hararghe Highlands. It is third in land coverage and total production after sorghum and maize. However, the wheat stem rust disease is threatening production of wheat in this region. So, this research was conducted with the following objective: to determine the population of Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici in Hararghe Highlands. A total of 200 fields were surveyed and stem rust samples were collected and transported to Kulumsa Agricultural Research… Expand

AN OVERVIEW OF COMPARISON BETWEEN WHEAT RUSTS MYCOFLORA IN INDIA WITH GLOBAL SCENARIO
Wheat rusts are the oldest plant disease known to human and caused by Puccinia species. Puccinia species are the main constraints in wheat production wherever wheat is grown. Early literaturesExpand

Virulence analysis of Puccinia graminis f.sp. tritici populations in Ethiopia with special consideration of Ug99
TLDR
Four stem rust resistance genes (Sr13, Sr30, Sr36 and SrTmp) were found to confer resistance to most of the races prevalent in Ethiopia and could be used in breeding for resistance to stem rust in Ethiopia. Expand
Detection of Virulence to Resistance Gene Sr36 Within the TTKS Race Lineage of Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici.
TLDR
The occurrence of race TTTSK with combined virulence on Sr31 and Sr36 has further broadened the virulence spectrum of the TTKS lineage and rendered an important source of resistance ineffective. Expand
Detection of Virulence to Resistance Gene Sr24 Within Race TTKS of Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici.
TLDR
The North American stem rust nomenclature system is proposed to be revised by the addition of four genes (Sr24, Sr31, Sr38, and SrMcN) as the fifth set and differentiates isolates within race TTKS into two separate races: TTKSK and TTKST, with avirulence and virulence on Sr24, respectively. Expand
Genetic Diversity in Australian Populations of Puccinia graminis f. sp. avenae.
TLDR
Genetic analysis revealed the presence of several clonal lineages and subpopulations in the pathogen population, and wide dispersal of identical races and genotypes throughout Australian cereal-growing regions, demonstrating the dynamic population structure of this pathogen in Australia. Expand
Races of Puccinia graminis in the United States during 1992
TLDR
No virulence was found to wheat lines with «single» genes Sr13, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 37, Gt, or Wld-1. Expand
Races of Puccinia graminis in the United States During 1995.
TLDR
Race NA-27, virulent to Pg-1, -2, -3, -4, and -8, was again the predominant race in the United States, comprising 82% of the 225 isolates from 80 collections. Expand
Pathogenic specialisation of wheat rusts in Australia and New Zealand in 1988 and 1989
Levels of stem, leaf, and stripe rusts were generally low in commercial crops during the 1988 and 1989 growing seasons, and it is likely that yield losses due to these diseases were minimal. SixExpand
Near-isogenic lines of wheat carrying genes for stem rust resistance
TLDR
A stem rust susceptible, day-length insensitive genotype was developed for use as a recurrent parent in the production of NILs and carried numbered Sr (stem rust resistance) genes at identified loci, while 19 carried genes at loci whose relationship to the identified loco was not known. Expand
Taxonomy, phylogeny, and distribution of Puccinia graminis, the black stem rust: new insights based on rDNA sequence data
TLDR
From rDNA data, the pathogen was introduced to North America at least twice independently and the analysis does not support classical morphology-based taxonomic concepts of the P. graminis complex. Expand
