In September 1963, I came to the famous Photosynthesis Laboratory of Eugene Rabinowitch (1901–1973) at the University of Illinois at Urbana, Illinois, after submitting my doctoral thesis, under Professor Pasupati Mukerjee, in physical chemistry, then at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Calcutta, India.
