Airborne particulate matter (APM) is a major air pollutant, and the effect on human health of fine APM (PM2.5) deposited deep inside the lungs has recently become a serious concern. Moreover, soluble constituents may leach from APM, and intensify some health disorders. To identify the soluble chemical constituents of APM, size-classified APM was sampled in central Tokyo, and the elemental compositions of the water-soluble, acid-soluble and insoluble fractions were investigated. The extraction…

Seasonal variations in the chemical composition of particulate matter: a case study in the Po Valley. Part II: concentration and solubility of micro- and trace-elements
TLDR
Investigating the contribution of the two size fractions and the two solubility fractions to the atmospheric concentration of each element found that many toxic elements were in the form of fine particles and soluble chemical species, more accessible to the environment, and the human body.
Regional and seasonal characteristics of emission sources of fine airborne particulate matter collected in the center and suburbs of Tokyo, Japan as determined by multielement analysis and source receptor models.
TLDR
It is suggested that a better understanding of the regional and seasonal characteristics of impacting emission sources will be important for improving regional environments.
On-line dynamic extraction system hyphenated to inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry for automatic determination of oral bioaccessible trace metal fractions in airborne particulate matter
TLDR
A dynamic flow-through approach as a front end to inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) exploiting advanced flow analysis is employed for on-line handling of multiple APM samples and determination of bioaccessible trace metals under worst case extraction scenarios.
Study on time variations of elemental composition and source of PM2.5 in Beijing
Chemical elements are major components of PM2.5 and crucial tracers to identify the source of aerosol particles using source apportionment models such as Positive Matrix Factorization (PMF) model and

Fractionation of eleven elements by chemical bonding from airborne particulate matter collected in an industrial city in Argentina.
TLDR
A comparative assessment of the use of the underlying information available from fractionation studies compared to that obtained from total element content showed that the results obtained using chemical sequential extraction procedures allowed further discrimination of the potential air pollution sources.
Concentrations, enrichment and predominant sources of Sb and other trace elements in size classified airborne particulate matter collected in Tokyo from 1995 to 2004.
TLDR
It was observed that the APM concentration was higher between the winter and the spring, compared to during the summer, and it was concluded that the source of Sb in squared APM <2 microm is considered to be from brake pad wear.
Studies on the speciation of inorganic and organic antimony compounds in airborne particulate matter by HPLC-ICP-MS
There is a considerably increasing concern about the speciation of antimony because anthropogenic emission has resulted in an increasing concentration of antimony in the environment. Apart from
