Ghost-free bimetric theory can describe gravity in the presence of an extra spin-2 field. We study certain aspects of dynamics in this theory: (1) It is shown that if either of the metrics is an Einstein solution then the other is always forced to be Einstein, too. For a class of bimetric models this constraint is stronger and as soon as one metric is Einstein, the other metric is forced to be proportional to it. As a consequence, the models in this class avoid a branch of pathological…

On the local structure of spacetime in ghost-free bimetric theory and massive gravity

The ghost-free bimetric theory describes interactions of gravity with another spin-2 field in terms of two Lorentzian metrics. However, if the two metrics do not admit compatible notions of space and

On the local structure of spacetime in ghost-free bimetric theory and massive gravity

A bstractThe ghost-free bimetric theory describes interactions of gravity with another spin-2 field in terms of two Lorentzian metrics. However, if the two metrics do not admit compatible notions of

Higher Derivative Gravity and Conformal Gravity from Bimetric and Partially Massless Bimetric Theory

In this paper, we establish the correspondence between ghost-free bimetric theory and a class of higher derivative gravity actions, including conformal gravity and new massive gravity. We also

Algebraic properties of Einstein solutions in ghost-free bimetric theory

A known fact is that an Einstein solution in one sector in ghost-free bimetric theory implies an Einstein solution in the other sector. Earlier studies have also shown that some classes of bimetric

Absence of ghost in a new bimetric-matter coupling

Interactions in bimetric theory, which can describe gravity in the presence of an extra spin-2 field, are severely constrained by the requirement of the absence of the Boulware-Deser ghost

Analytical constraints on bimetric gravity

Ghost-free bimetric gravity is an extension of general relativity, featuring a massive spin-2 field coupled to gravity. We parameterize the theory with a set of observables having specific physical

Constraints on bimetric gravity. Part II. Observational constraints

Ghost-free bimetric gravity is a theory of two interacting spin-2 fields, one massless and one massive, in addition to the standard matter particles and fields, thereby generalizing Einstein's theory

Observational constraints on bimetric gravity

Ghost‐Free Completion of An Effective Matter Coupling in Bimetric Theory

We consider a particular set of ghost‐free interactions for three spin‐2 fields in which we freeze out the dynamics of the metric tensor that couples to the matter sector. Integrating out the

Massive gravity from bimetric gravity

We discuss the subtle relationship between massive gravity and bimetric gravity, focusing particularly on the manner in which massive gravity may be viewed as a suitable limit of bimetric gravity.

Bimetric gravity from ghost-free massive gravity

A bstractGenerically, non-linear bimetric theories of gravity suffer from the same Boulware-Deser ghost instability as non-linear theories of massive gravity. However, recently proposed theories of

Bimetric theory and partial masslessness with Lanczos–Lovelock terms in arbitrary dimensions

Ghost-free bimetric theories describe nonlinear interactions of massive and massless spin-2 fields and, hence, provide a natural framework for investigating the phenomenon of partial masslessness for

Self-accelerating Massive Gravity: Bimetric Determinant Singularities

The existence of two metrics in massive gravity theories in principle allows solutions where there are singularities in new scalar invariants jointly constructed from them. These configurations occur

Ghost-free massive gravity with a general reference metric

A bstractTheories of massive gravity inevitably include an auxiliary reference metric. Generically, they also contain an inconsistency known as the Boulware-Deser ghost. Recently, a family of

Spherically symmetric solutions in ghost-free massive gravity

Recently, a class of theories of massive gravity has been shown to be ghost-free. We study the spherically symmetric solutions in the bigravity formulation of such theories. In general, the solutions

Confirmation of the secondary constraint and absence of ghost in massive gravity and bimetric gravity

A bstractIn massive gravity and in bimetric theories of gravity, two constraints are needed to eliminate the two phase-space degrees of freedom of the Boulware-Deser ghost. For recently proposed

Viable cosmology in bimetric theory

We study cosmological perturbations in bimetric theory with two fluids each of which is coupled to one of the two metrics. Focusing on a healthy branch of background solutions, we clarify the
