Observing biophysical phenomena at the nanometer scale with both high spatial and temporal resolution is a challenging feat. Although many techniques, including atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, have demonstrated subnanometer spatial resolution, most exhibit drawbacks which limit their temporal resolution.
