Crosses between strains belonging to the Tetranychus urticae complex often reveal some degree of mortality in the eggs laid by the F4 females. Two such strains were studied. Non-Mendelian features characterize the F1 infertility: F1 females of the same cross differ considerably regarding mortality in their eggs, reciprocal crosses give different results and the degree of egg mortality changes when the F1 female gets older.
