There is ample evidence that children’s adjustment and wellbeing are associated with the interpersonal acceptance and rejection they experience from their social environment. In this paper I argue for the important role children have in this process. I provide some evidence that parenting is in part influenced by the genetic propensities of the child, in a process termed gene-environment correlation (rGE).
