Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate (anti-NMDA) receptor encephalitis is a newly described paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis syndrome characterized by the presence of antibodies directed against the NR1 subunit of the synaptic NMDA receptors, affecting young, healthy individuals, mainly women.
