BACKGROUND Neurodegenerative diseases may extend outside the central nervous system (CNS) and involve the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The gut would appear to be a pathological marker for neurodegeneration, as well as a site for studying the pathophysiology of neurodegeneration.
